The New European Bauhaus

A project of hope, change and economic transformation

New European Bauhaus“This is what the New European Bauhaus is all about. It is about hope. It is about inspiration. It is about new perspectives. And it’s about concrete actions against climate change.” (Ursula von der Leyen)

The #NewEuropeanBauhaus is off to a good start. After the introduction in September 2020 by the European Commission, enthusiasm and ideas were already flourishing. With the recent conference (April 22 & 23, 2021)
the initiative presented itself as a possible driving factor for necessary change from deep […]

The „Soul of Europe“

The „Soul of Europe“ includes solidarity, respect and tolerance

bc2015-schulz

Started by a strong speech by European Parliament President Martin Schulz, the 2nd day of the conference about “Europe, its values, its citizens” continued to be an interesting collection of many initiatives, ideas and specific examples of citizen participation.

Now, with the current refugees challenge, Europe needs to prove itself in many ways and is forced to come to terms with its own identity. As Doris Pack, former chair of the cultural & education committee in […]

Discussing the European Soul

A Soul for Europe conference 2015 – Day1

The Conference started today in Berlin with a special pre-conference with a focus on the current #refugees challenge in European cities.

Since over 10 years, this conference is a meeting point for initiatives working together FOR Europe while understanding that culture is a driving factor in the positive support of the European idea. This is an exchange of people, who are taking a stand against any nationalistic tendencies. We, who believe in the European idea are now required to speak out against the deniers of the benefits of open borders within the EU.

However – […]

cultural policy discussions: cultural funding in Europe

With the goal of discovering different ways of cultural funding in Europe, the Berliner Festspiele started a talk series (four Mondays), called “It needn´t be this way! (Es geht auch anders!)“, focusing on the changes of cultural funding structures and on how “…political processes, institutions and artists as well as production processes (are) organised…” in some neighboring European countries.

The first talk has been about the (music) theater scene in (Flemish) Belgium. Even after 30 minutes of history lessons by the four guests, I – as a neutral listener […]

From cultural diversity to cultural pluralism

It became a habit of mine, to regularly re-read the “Declaration of Cultural Diversity” every couple of month. While we all know, that politicians sometimes use a very vague language and that the UN – which is based on compromise – in particular has had the tendency to water down firm statements, the declaration is a clear notice of the importance of cultural diversity. Proclaimed by the General Conference of the UNESCO in November 2001, the declaration and its 20 points of the annexed action plan are still valid today and I […]

The Sacred Science

Just finished >skip-watching< the sacred science, a documentary about …”eight people from all different walks of life, with varying physical and psychological ailments, as they embark on a one-month healing journey into the heart of the Amazon jungle.” Having tried conventional western health science for years, the journey to traditional, indigenous, shamanic healing art is their last hope.
While filming, editing, sound etc. are not the very best and filmmaker Nick Polizzi could have let the healers present even more of their techniques, the subject of […]

this week…

It is UN week in NewYork. On the one hand, this means a multitude of security measures for the city, but on the other hand, NYC will still function as usual in its never-ending dynamic activity, which is accompanied by a unique buzzing sound. Whoever has lived in the city, knows, what I mean.

So this week will see some more discussions on possible peace talks for Syria, which will most likely not yet cover at all a protection of the countries rich cultural heritage. This is as much in danger, as it has been in Iraq or Afghanistan, only this […]
